WARNING: If you bought this item at places like Costco, Walmart or Lowe’s, there is a recall alert and you can get a refund. According to the Associated Press, the Consumer Product Safety Commission says that around 2 million dehumidifiers made by New Widetech are being recalled in the U.S. because they can overheat and catch fire, posing fire and burn hazards. Although the dehumidifiers are made by New Widetech, they are sold under popular brand names like Honeywell, Whirlpool and Amana. The recall also includes about 380,000 dehumidifiers in Canada and about 25,000 in Mexico.
According to New Widetech, they have knowledge of at least 107 incidents of the recalled dehumidifiers overheating and/or catching fire, resulting in about $17 million in property damage.
